2016 Prelius Priele Maremma Toscana

It would be easy to describe this as a delicious super tuscan and call it a day––let the sides argue as to whether or not Cab and Merlot should be grown in Italy.  "Heathen!"..."Snob!"––but I would remiss to not mention that Toscana IGTs in recent years are as Italian as mopeds and excessive American tourism in the summer. In fact they rule and the 2016 Prelius will knock your socks off: rich but not overbearing fruit flavors with intricate layers of berry fruit, both fresh and dried; cocoa, licorice, herbal goodness, all spice and tootsie roll galore.  Deep, complex and long with just enough age for it to show some wonders but could be in the cellar for another 5.
