Another ridiculously great wine from the closeout list. Gross is thought of as the top producer of Sauvignon Blanc in Austria, This wine comes from four small vineyards in the village of Ehrenhausen where the soils are strongly calcareous, with marl and limestone. This sauvignon comes from vines ranging from roughly 10 to more than 30 years old. Grapes are carefully selected, hand-harvested, fully destemmed, and macerated for a short period of roughly 3-6 hours before spontaneous fermentation takes place in traditional large, oak barrels. The wine is then racked and matured in the same barrels for 12 months, followed by 6 months in stainless tank.
