    2015 Red Burgundy Line-Up from Edmond Cornu

    The subject line might have caught your eye" 2015 red Burgundy?" you might be asking yourself.  After all, in the marketplace today we are seeing the tail end of 2016 red Burgundy with 2017 slowly creeping in. But Edmond Cornu is pure #thuglife. While others are desperately trying to get everything out of the cellar as quickly as possible, Cornu likes to wait a bit. Let them settle down in the cellar before making the great pilgrimage across the pond.  Shouldn't we all be so lucky?

    New 2016 Cornas from Giullaume Gilles and Domaine Lionnet

    The whole of Cornas comprises 145 hectares of vines—smaller than many individual mid-sized estates in a region like Bordeaux or Tuscany—and its punishingly steep slopes ensure, in Darwinian fashion, that only the most committed growers will forge wine here. Perhaps it’s because of its diminutive size, or because it has never been as dominated by négociants nor as glorified in the press as its more northern neighbors, but Cornas gives the impression of a tight- knit community—a group of winegrowers with an abundant respect for local tradition, and for what makes their wines special.

    New Wines, Reduced Prices, Insane Scores from Washington State's Finest: Leonetti and Quilceda Creek

    I have been meaning to do a newsletter on this for a while.  I adore the wines from Washington State and the producers below represent a majority of the better ones coming out of there. For the price, these destroy comparably priced ones from California any day of the week. They are more refined and can age just as long.  Below is a lineup from Leonetti and Quilceda Creek. It doesn't get much better! Pound for pound, the prices beat anything from California for what these will do over time. These are cellar masters; necessary for any

    Arrival of 2016 Xavier Gerard Cote Rotie

    Several years ago, the formidable distributor Neal Rosenthal decided to bring in this great producer of Cote Rotie to complement their most excellent lineup of Northern Rhone wines. Xavier Gerard was young and unheard of which is strange for a region as small as Cote Rotie and the Northern Rhone . I tried his lineup a few years back and was really excited about the possibilities.  Unlike other Cote Roties, there was a lot to go around and I would beg my Rhone customers to try this and be bedazzled, especially the 2015.

    New Wines from Sablonnettes: Natural but not too Natural in the Loire!

    Most of you are familiar with this great producer who has been a staple of our store since opening. In fact, on a personal basis, this was one of the first natural wines I tried that made me think something cliche like "cool....that's interesting!" I often call these great intro natural wines since the flavors are not too over the top in any way and if you didn't know it was natural you might just think they are light and refreshing.

    Our friend Mr. Eric Asimov has hit the nail on the head one more time. I say this every time, but I am super thrilled he has decided to focus on arguably the most underrated and misunderstood wine region in the world: Languedoc. In short, historically, this was the red headed step child of France––mass produced, overlooked, table wine. Unfortunately, this persisted for generations until the last decade or so where amazing wines have been coming out with lighting speed.

    The popularity of orange wines these days is astonishing. At once there was one in the store and it was hard to sell, now the average customer is coming in looking for it EVERY SINGLE DAY!  Good for us, isn't it? As we have a sick selection with loads of diversity within various price points.  Today we feature two new ones from Spain that are as diverse as diverse can be for orange wines which can vary and fluctuate from a bit oxidative with mild skin contact to cloudy to insanely weird and kombucha like. What have we got today?
