New Vintages of Paolo Bea: Santa Chiara, Arboreus and Lapideus

Paolo Bea is one of those names that almost that has almost become a secret code in the wine consumers world. Not for the un-savvy shopper. Those who speak about it are normally avid collectors who appreciate great values. And while PaoloBea is not cheap, for what it can do in the cellar over time, there is literally nothing like it. Speaking personally, I have only tried one older one before from 2001 that was still so young; the tannins hit the brakes on my palate as if I came to a red light with a group of school children crossing the street. It had barely aged a day.  The strange thing is that many people still don't know what these wines are capable of, since the amount of pre-2000 that exists in the U.S. is very slim and not many have claimed a taste.

2017 Red Burgundy Offer: Jean Grivot, Tollot Beaut and Michael Magnien

Folks, the 2017 Burgundy vintage is in full affect. As I had a son born in 2017, this is a special vintage for me, which whatever I don't sell will be used for pre-college, wedding and Grammy award festivities.  But we have plenty to go around. 2017 is a great and unique vintage. Gallioni calls it a "modern classic." Jasper Morrissays 2017 "offers a lighter, fresher style, inevitably calling for epithets such as ‘this is a more Burgundian vintage’," while Jancis says "there is an added sense of satisfaction this year because this bounty is not just the work of Nature but of the growers themselves."

New Wines from Herve Souhaut the Rhone Rock Star!

Herve Souhaut is one of those names slowly creeping up the totem poll of celebrity winemaker, rockstar notoriety. Heard of him? Some have. It's a fun name that gets thrown around in natural wine circles but being that his style is so distinct it definitely hits the menus of the most esoteric and geeky wine bars.

New Wines from Merkin Vineyards: Tool's Frontman Maynard Keenan Making Wine in Arizona!

For today, we get a combination of two of my favorite things: wine and music. What more can you ask for? Let me wax a little personal for a moment. I discovered the band Tool shortly after their 3rd album Anemia in 1996 and my life has changed for the better. I think. If you told me back in my early college years as I was sitting around amazed at this album; that one day the lead singer of this band would be making wine; I would own a wine store and he would come not once, but twice to the store; I would shake my head and ask, what's next, Donald Trump will be president?  But the story is true.

Killer Alsatian White @ 40% Off!

So let's get down to business.. Alsatian wines are too overlooked and need more appreciation from my audience. I am partially to blame for this as I don't offer that many. Let's change that right here, right now, watching the world wake up from history.

New Vintages of Sicilian Super Star Arianna Occhipinti

I first discovered Arianna Occhipinti in my neophyte days. But as ignorant as I was––the folly of youth––I knew there was something inherently special about her that has stayed with me for what seems like a lifetime. Whenever I make a lasagna or some super fatty Italian dish, I try to reach for one as it is an exceptionally magical experience. Unfortunately, I am not alone. These wines have become iconic in the wine geek community and hence are now hard to come by.  As I alluded to above, what used to sit there for ages until an interested customer said "ooh, what is that?" are now sold in tiny amounts. One of the conundrums of the wine world....we all can't be as plentiful and fertile as Yellow Tail.
