Baby Chateauneuf du Pape for Insane Price: 95 Points!
2017 Domaine Lafond Lirac
I know, I know, the baby metaphor gets old very quickly. But, watch my video above and you will see I am sincere.
Lirac is one of those mysterious villages in the Southern Rhone considered thrid in the hierarchy behind Chateauneuf and Gigondas. It has the same grape combination––give or take––and tends to exist on similar terroir without the massive slope. So baby, toddler, senior citizen, who cares? As you will see once you purchase this wine, it is insane, off the charts for the price.

The nose has a very similar essence to a less pricey Chateauneuf any day of the week. There is the myriad of textures and flavors: finely diced herbs, wild sage, licorice, berry blend, earth, leather, shoe polish, tar and tobacco.
The palate does not have the same finish as a Chateauneuf but whatever, drink it faster. There is the same juiciness, fresh fruit and finely integrated, supple tannins. Delic and can even age and...I wouldn't be surprised if it got a little better.

95 Points Decanter: “Black and red fruit nose. The supple palate is packed with juicy berry fruits and nice chalky tannins. The finish is fresh, detailed, long and palate-staining.”
